Sewn by Hand blog tour and giveaway!

"Hand sewing is a bit like taking the two-lane highways instead of the interstate. It's a bit slower, but the character, charm and unique soulfulness of those back roads are priceless beyond hours"-Susan Wasinger

...yes. I have indeed come out of hiding today, and I have the perfect reason to do so.
With the past few weeks being full of business as I work on a very exciting project, there have
been "much needed" moments to take a good little pause and slow down a bit. Susan Wasinger's new book from Lark Crafts has fit that need perfectly, and I cannot be more thrilled to introduce this book as part of her current blog tour.

..Sewn By Hand: Two Projects Stitched With Needle and Thread is a wonderful book that takes Slow Food's way of living into the sewing world. With just a handful of stitches to learn, one is able to create projects ranging from a Thread Caddy with Pin Holder to a Buttoned-Up Tote with
Handmade Buttons (a personal favourite of mine). I love how Susan included a Portability Factor rating for each project, allowing readers to selectively choose which projects may work best when toting a project with them. (think cafes, subway trips, relaxing at the beach, sporting events, etc...)

..yes. I have been indeed busy, and nothing was more needed than a book that allowed me to take some much needed moments to breathe and take pause. A book that allowed me to sit amidst the hectic sounds that surrounded me and focus on the one sound that mattered...the sound of each hand-sewn stitch as I guided it through the fabric. A sound that calmed my soul, and reminded me of why I love to sew.

...As part of the blog tour, Lark Crafts is offering my viewers this lovely package that Susan has put together! (don't you love all of the accompaniments?) Is there a place you like to create?
If so, please leave a comment below....and spread the word! Twitter, blog, Facebook.....I will count a vote for each, giving everyone up to 4 chances to enter.(just please leave me the links)
You have until Thursday at 10pm EST...good luck!

What a lovely giveaway. :)

I wish I had a nice quiet room where I could just sit and do all my crafts in. But our house is not that big so I get to create mostly on the dining room table, among the confusion of two little boys always wanting to know what I'm making.

For "sewing by hand" projects I like to sit in a comfortable chair in either my living room or family room.

I love hand sewing and embroidery and this package looks totally awesome! My favorite place to hand sew is at the end of my couch, with my best friend (doggie) laying beside me. The only problem is a constantly have to push her head off my lap when I want to reposition the quilt I'm hand quilting.

I love hand sewing on my back porch swing while my son plays with trucks and colors with chalk :)

I am just now beginning to experiment with hand sewing - I really like the pace. I have been sewing in my living room - and yesterday my 4-yr-old son was embroidering right next to me! The only down side to my sewing is that I get so involved that I forget to drink my tea! I've re-heated more cups than I care to admit :)

I like to work in my spare bedroom...which is more of a craft room now. Cutting table, sewing machine...and lots of shelves and storage. It's my room!!

i have a bedroom all to myself for crafting...i am truly spoiled...but i love working on hand project in the midst of the chaos of our home.

I usually do crafts in the kitchen. The light tends to be best during the morning, but somehow I usually end up doing cards etc. late in the night...

Thanks for the chance to win.

What a great giveaway! I sew (craft, knit) where ever I can -- in the car during rain-drenched soccer pratices, out in the park, on the beach and the less muddy, sandy places in the house too! It is not where I do it that is important, just that I do it!

what an amazing giveaway thank you!
My favourite crafting place is my attic studio that looks out onto trees, trees and more trees. it is my own personal idyllic retreat ;-)

I love to work on small hand projects while I watch classic movies. :)

LOVE to do it it in a comfy chair with hot tea, but its done more often in a lounge chair outside watching the little one play. or on road trips while the hubby drives!

Ah, these projects do look restive. I like to create in a cozy chair in my craft room, overlooking my balcony and trees. I also like to surround myself with inspiring clips of paper, fabric, sewn things, books, and art.

sewing by hand is indeed soothing - there's something hypnotic about making a needle do magic!

No place in particular. Anywhere that I can sit and it doesn't move too much (like a car or train).

I knit during long meetings and workshops, and now that baseball season is here (and hopefully the weather will finally begin to warm up), I generally carry some hand sewing with me for those three hour games...

anywhere! I almost always have a bit of hand sewing on the go that I can grab to take with me - camping, on the beach, waiting room, train ..... but mostly I love to sew at home, curled up on the couch :)

I sit in my recliner in the family room with my rolled up quilt on my lap and stitch down the binding until I get to the corner and then I unroll the quilt and re-roll it to complete the next side. I have a nice bright light from the floor lamp and my favorite entertainment on TV.

I love to create when I am home alone and can sit quietly in our workroom. Thanks for the chance to win.

For hand swewing I love to sit on a rug on the lawn in a pool of sunshine with the sounds of my children and the scent of the garden around me. (It doesn't happen very often!)

I have a sewing stdio where I have my machines and my stash but I also have a basket of wool felt and perle cotton that I can move from room to room for my small hand projects. I can stitch in bed, curled up on the couch in front of a movie, or (if it ever stops raining here!) out on the patio.

My favorite place to sew is wherever my husband is - our time together is short due to our busy jobs, so I don't like spending our evenings isolated in separate rooms - handsewing allows me to be near him as he works on his own projects.

I have a sewing room that i love to go to and create. its my favorite place to getaway. love to have that book!

for hand sewing and knitting, nothing is better than curled up on the couch with my puppies and my honey. and a big cup of coffee....

When we moved to our new house, seven years ago, I thought I would claim one of the guest rooms as my quilting space. But it turns out I like to quilt in the middle of the family action...so my space is the same as my mother's was--I sit at the dining room table I inherited from her, and quilt, listening to baseball games and phone calls and conversations, chiming in occasionally, so happy.

Now that winter is on the way I will do some hand work in my sunny 'drawing room' that I share with the cats. It is really a bedroom but it has a lounge and some cat chairs and big glass doors to let in the sun as well as a window for extra light.

I really like the book! I like to create in my room. That's where ideas spring into my mind!

What a beautiful book to have on-hand. It depends on what I'm doing as I don't have a specific area designated for my projects - in the study at the kitchen table, at the couch with the sunny window next to me.
Thanks for the giveaway.

Thanks for this great giveaway!
I do most of my sewing in my craft room, but fir hand sewing, I like to get comfy on the living room couch...

In the last year, we have done a lot of driving between NV and CA. It may sound silly, but I have grown to like creating in the front seat of our van! I usually grab my sewing box and a few scraps or whatever project I am currently working on and pass the time hand sewing. Uninterrupted time for this mom is not always easy to come by, but when I can get it I put it to good use!

I love to hand sew from embroidery, cross-stitch (my mom's specialty), quilting and simple mending. My favorite places to sew are by my floor to ceiling windows for natural light or a cozy bookstore. I don't own a sewing machine so this book will be a big inspiration.

I love to sew in "the yellow room." It has lots of light streaming through the windows, sunny yellow paint on the walls, a sky blue ceiling, and sunflowers EVERYWHERE! It is the perfect place :)

What a lovely looking book!!
I have a "craft room" that I can hardly walk into (and I don't even like too, as it's a cave in the basement - no windows)... so I like to have a hand-work project upstairs where I can sit and be part of family life whilst I work.
