not just for packaging, "don't ya know"....

...according to my little one, this tape is not good for packaging due to a more appropriate purpose that mummy apparently should have thought about.

...I entered the room to see heads being chopped off (in a very precise manner, mind you....),
and bodies being drawn.

...he was hard at work concocting little stories for each character (I am the one in the middle, by the way....keep that in mind for later....)

...and here they are 20 minutes later. Apparently we all ate toads, and I managed to snack on some chopped off spider legs and bits of our roof (that's why my face is more yellow....)

...what will yours dine on today?

**** Note: In case any of you are still interested in pre-ordering some fabric, I will be closing all orders and removing the listings after this Fri. Some of you inquired about more yardage than what I have listed. Feel free to convo me through my shop, and I can set up a custom listing! thanks again!!! ****

time to pre-order!

...how does a little pre-order sound? Rather than order bolts ahead of time, I thought offering a pre-order launch would allow me to test the waters in regard to this new venture of selling fabric in my shop. I am going to post this cute little pattern along with a couple others, and then place an order this Friday. Plan to receive your fabric within the next three to four weeks!

...what do ya say?

I thought you said they were too girly....

...he had no interest in a pair of mummy's shoes until a classmate showed up to school wearing her own pair of sly foxes.....

...and who wouldn't want a pair after seeing miss gabs show them off so well?

have you had enough yet?

...the poor sewing machine stares at me, all covered in dust...

...I am so sorry my dear Kenmore, but I just cannot help myself....

..I've got the bug, and I don't want to stop....

...you are just going to have to wait a little bit longer..
(wait..I believe I also just said that to the kids a second ago...)

it is the tour (and world cup) that initiated this one...

...the boys are ready (and quite anxious) to start re-enacting their favourite sprinters and climbers on our chalk-drawn version of Le Tour De France in our driveway. ( I am still quite partial to my dear Cavendish.....). With the added bonus of World Cup around the corner, we decided to get ourselves prepared by venturing out to our local teacher's resource store for a good world map.
...The boys are really excited, and I myself am realizing just how much I don't know about the world around me ( I just play it off like I have it all down....it just took mummy a bit longer to find it, that's all.....sound convincing?) We have many plans for this dear map, and I am happy that we went with the one that included flags. The boys love drawing them, and have already begun getting their jerseys ready for the upcoming events...

..we just need to figure out what to do for a team car this year, as the boys have outgrown this car that was perfect for handing out water and fixing flat tires.....

..oh, we are so excited!!

a little fun with Spoonflower....

whew! After what seemed like countless hours trying desperately to sort this whole "repeat pattern" business out, I finally managed to get it done. It somehow, and might I add magically, works really well and I cannot wait to see the swatch when it arrives. The only problem is that some of my steps to get here are a bit vague, and who knows if I will be able to even remember how I got it to work.....that's the only problem when you start frantically clicking at random in the middle of the night.....

I did, however, manage to squeak in a little time to work on this fun and very "stress-free" design when hair pulling needed to take a little break. With a test yard sent this past week, I was able to tinker around a bit more with it until it was done. Viola!

A few snapshots with my favourite new ring, and the fabric is now ready for sale at
Spoonflower! (oh dear...I should have gotten out the iron. Just pretend you don't see any wrinkles....)
I decided that the images were a bit large for my liking, so the one adjustment I did make was to make the pattern quite a bit smaller.

Now I just have to figure out what to make with it..hmmm......any ideas?

happy mother's day.....

...it's 11pm and I have spent the day successfully avoiding any "suspicious" areas that may hold forbidden objects. Underneath the couch and inside various cupboards, house secret items that a certain mum is forbidden to see. I have to say, I am quite impressed that these little sneaky souls have managed to go the past few days without giving away any secrets (and boys, I know how hard that must be for you......)

...I am looking forward to a morning in bed where a moment of quiet will inevitably be followed by two boys rushing in, unable to hold it in any longer. I will be lying there happy to be covered with the pieces that had been hidden so well...( which translates to a week of me pushing things I know I shouldn't see further under the couch because I almost tripped on them as I walked by.....and then making sure to take mental note of where I stumbled upon all these randomly placed objects just in case they get "lost")

..I hope all of you have a wonderful Mother's Day, and mum.......although I may not be there to rush in and jump on your bed in the wee hours of the morning desperate to shout "Happy Mother's Day", I will be thinking of you so much. So much so, that maybe I should send a call your way when the boys come in. Besides, I will be bursting at the seams anxious to tell you what had been hidden under the couch all week long.

...Maybe you can sleep in next year :)

I won't have any hair left if this keeps up....

rough (did I mention rough?) work in progress....this is a quick sketch with many a mismatched line!

...so, where have I been all week you ask?

...if your guess is spending countless hours trying to figure out pattern repeats, you are spot on.
It started out simple enough, with an idea that I thought would be perfect for this particular design. The only factor standing in my way was how to even go about tackling something like this. I am afraid my photoshop skills are quite poor, which probably makes this idea take much longer than it should. (hence the lack of posting here in the last few days...I am so frustrated and determined at the same time!)

..I saw a wonderful tutorial on design sponge with the ever so amazing Julia Rothman, and decided to dive right in. Her instructions really opened up my eyes on how one can address this without the computer, yet I still found myself struggling to get my images to line up correctly.

...I am pulling out my hair left and right, but have dove in too far to stop. I know I may be approaching this pattern in the most convoluted way possible, but I hope it will all work out in the end.

...so please, bear with me as I try to preserve what remaining strands of hair I have left....
and if any of you out there have some insight into this process, I am all ears.

boredom inevitably leads to lava bridges....

...without boredom, they may have never been the lava bridge that allows you to go from one end of the garden to the other without turning to dust. (which, apparently is very important if you want to keep all your super powers.....)

...it was a hot afternoon and they were "bored". We had already spent the day together at the cafe, played tag in the park, and battled each other with some card games. It was a great morning, but I was ready to do my own thing.

...They are getting older now, and I am finding it more important (and desirable on my own part!) that they learn how to play on their own more often. I keep going back to my own childhood days that were spent either setting up "house" in the back garden shed, or playing "butcher shop" in the basement with a big pile of moving paper and hanging chalkboard with the hand-written daily specials. Even without elaborate set-ups, my sister and I were outside spending hours playing in mud or climbing trees. And now my boys need to do that to.

...Sure, the time started out with many a plea for just a "quick" game of knights or tag.

...Yes, they claimed "boredom" with such a sound of devastation and sad look in their eyes that one would think they couldn't possibly live through anything worse.

...and of course I was feeling a bit doubtful as I went inside to do something for me.

...But, oh how they surprised me when I came back outside! One boy was lining up the path as the other spent his time methodically picking out the stones. Discussions were had on how to construct it properly, and decisions were made on what necessary "dangers" one would need to avoid when crossing the ocean of lava.

...Two hours went by, and they were so absorbed that I became an unnecessary distraction when I asked to join. Retreating to the kitchen, I made myself a cup of tea and stood at the sink, watching through the window. They were in heaven, and I just as much so, as I listened to their wonderful play. It was perfect and ever so appreciated by all of us.

...I finished my tea, cleaned up some dishes and went back outside.

..This time it was me who was begging , "will you play with me, pleeeeaaaase?"
